MM bodyguard romance
One man is paid, contracted or coerced into standing between the other and whoever wants him dead, and proximity does the rest. The job gives the couple a reason to be in the same room around the clock without either of them choosing it, which is most of what forced proximity is doing elsewhere, and then it adds a power question on top: one of them is being protected, the other is being paid to protect him, and neither status survives falling in love unchanged.
Heat and ending stated up front. A good half of this shelf runs the client as rich, famous or both, because money and fame are the cheapest way to make round-the-clock protection plausible.

What counts here
Three rules:
- A real threat. Someone is trying to hurt the client, credibly, on the page. A bodyguard hired as a formality with nothing actually chasing him is a different book wearing this one's job title.
- The protection has to matter to the plot, not just supply the meet-cute. If the threat resolves in chapter three and the rest is unrelated to it, the job was an excuse for the meet-cute and nothing more.
- Heat and ending stated plainly for every book. You shouldn't have to find out at chapter twenty.
What the heat ratings mean
The five point scale romance readers already use, lowest to highest. Every book below is marked on it.
- Glimpses and kisses a kiss at most, and no sex on or off the page
- Behind closed doors it happens, but the door shuts first
- Open door at least one scene you are in the room for, written without the explicit words
- Explicit open door two or more scenes, explicit, and a range of things happening
- Explicit and plentiful several explicit scenes spread through the book
Why does money keep showing up in this trope?
Round-the-clock personal protection is expensive and most people never need it, so the shelf keeps reaching for a reason someone would have it: a rock star, a billionaire, an heir, a witness the government is paying to keep alive. That's not a coincidence and not a failure of imagination, it's the trope solving its own plausibility problem. The exception is government protection, a witness or a target of an investigation, where the state is paying instead of the client, and that version runs on secrecy and danger rather than on wealth.
