MM age gap romance
The years between them are never the point on their own. What matters is what the gap actually changes: who has the power in the room, who has already lived the life the other one is still working out, who has more to lose if it goes wrong. Two books can carry the same number of years apart and read nothing alike because of what that number is doing to the story.
Heat and ending stated up front, and what specifically creates the gap named for each book: a classroom, an ex-marriage, a workplace, a friendship that predates one of them being born.

What counts here
Two rules:
- The gap has to do something. Power, experience, or stakes have to shift because of it, not just the number on a driver's licence.
- Heat and ending stated plainly for every book. You shouldn't have to find out at chapter twenty.
What the heat ratings mean
The five point scale romance readers already use, lowest to highest. Every book below is marked on it.
- Glimpses and kisses a kiss at most, and no sex on or off the page
- Behind closed doors it happens, but the door shuts first
- Open door at least one scene you are in the room for, written without the explicit words
- Explicit open door two or more scenes, explicit, and a range of things happening
- Explicit and plentiful several explicit scenes spread through the book
What actually creates the gap, book to book
The gap does a different job in each book. In Just a Bit Twisted it comes with a classroom, and Rutledge controls Shawn's grade. In Elements of Retrofit, Strawberry Moon and Work: Strictly Professional the older man is the younger one's boss. Captivating runs it the other way. For Real puts the age on one side and the power on the other. Special Delivery has no power in it at all.

MM opposites attract runs on an adjacent logic: a gap the two men have to close, just measured in temperament or class rather than years.
Forced proximity and workplace setups both turn up constantly beside age gap, for the same reason a classroom does: an existing structure that puts two people in the same room on a schedule neither of them chose.
