MM rich/poor romance
One man has money and one doesn't, and the book is what that actually costs the one who doesn't: which room he can walk into, which favour he can't turn down, which version of himself he has to be to stay in the room at all. The gap isn't always huge. It just has to be real enough that neither man can pretend it isn't there.
Heat and ending stated up front, and which side of the gap each man starts on, because a story about the poor one gaining ground reads nothing like one about the rich one giving something up.

What counts here
Three rules:
- The gap has to cost somebody something real: a choice, a dependency, a risk. Money as scenery, with neither man's options actually changing because of it, isn't this book.
- It has to be acknowledged on the page. A rich lead who never notices what the gap does to the other man is a book that isn't really about the gap at all.
- Heat and ending stated plainly for every book. You shouldn't have to find out at chapter twenty.
What the heat ratings mean
The five point scale romance readers already use, lowest to highest. Every book below is marked on it.
- Glimpses and kisses a kiss at most, and no sex on or off the page
- Behind closed doors it happens, but the door shuts first
- Open door at least one scene you are in the room for, written without the explicit words
- Explicit open door two or more scenes, explicit, and a range of things happening
- Explicit and plentiful several explicit scenes spread through the book
How big the gap is changes what the book is testing
A moderate gap, one man comfortable and the other stretched thin, tends to run on daily friction: who pays, who feels beholden, who has to ask. A wide gap, wealthy family against genuine poverty, runs on something closer to survival, and the dependency is the plot rather than a subplot inside it. Neither is more honest than the other, but a book testing "can I let him pay for things" is a different book from one testing "can I leave if I need to."
